OK, so here’s a brand new 32-bar MIDI drum jam, as always recorded live by Magnus Brandell. According to Magnus, it’s inspired by 1980’s drumming – and as it turns out, it’s a very versatile one. To hear the drums in action, check out my tribute to 80’s horror film soundtracks below!
A Stranger 80’s Prog Track
While the drumming of this particular jam has very little to do with Synthwave a la the Stranger Things main theme, I kind of interpreted it that way. And the result is what happened when I sat down jamming along to it. Blame it on binging Stranger Things season 5. Also, having Cherry Audio’s Dreamsynth in your plugin arsenal certainly helps, as the arpeggiated basses really lend themselves to this type of music.
I’m quite happy with this track! It’s definitely got that 80’s horror soundtrack vibe, best experienced on a VHS tape that’s been copied nine times (fellow GenX peeps can surely relate). Oh, the nostalgia…
My keyboard playing is a bit sloppy in places, but that’s just how I roll. Magnus’ drumming is NOT sloppy in any way.
What are your thoughts (on the drumming, 80’s horror flicks or sloppy keyboard playing)?
