The jazz waltz is something you really can’t program or play on the keys yourself. To get that flow you need an experienced drummer with feel, variation in dynamics and overall musicality. OddGrooves’ drummer Magnus Brandell grew up listening to drummers such as Buddy Rich, Papa Joe Jones, Elvin Jones, Tony Williams and the more modern guys like Vinnie Colaiuta, Steve Gadd and Dave Weckl and immediately set out to master their stuff.
Since then he’s played with loads of jazz musicians in different small bands and big bands. The years at Berklee College of Music gave him even more knowledge of different styles in the jazz genre. In this pack Magnus delievers a wide varieity of waltz grooves in different styles, dynamics, tempos and different orchestrations on the drum kit which creates different moods for your music. Soft and loud hihat grooves, more simple ride-sidestick tom patterns and more complex, wild and loud grooves for your crazy ‘out’ solos, among others.

As ever, these oddgrooves midi loops are exceptional, all the flair and feel of a world class drummer! Only slight niggle with these jazz waltz drums is that they could do with some slightly slower grooves (70-80 bpm), but I knew what I was buying and have absolutely no complaints!

Awesome feel of tricky measure in jazz waltz, which could be too mechanical or too lose.. but not with OddGrooves. Again they nailed the right balance with a sense of human touch, making it fun to create songs out of the grooves. Sometimes I struggle with some Metadata of single midis using AD2, but another proof of customer service: everything could be fixed in a glimpse of time.

I have been looking high and low for decent 3/4 jazz drum loops for a long, long time – I was so pleased to find Oddgrooves and (albeit experiencing a bit of a technical hitch at first) I have been overjoyed with the lovely, natural sounding loops – decent length loops too so there is not too much repetition as you stitch them together. I have to also compliment Per of Oddgrooves for being so nice and helpful when I was having trouble at the beginning – a real person at the other end of an email, responded to my wail for help so quickly and so kindly and helpfully. Thank you so much and I will be back to find some more loops for other projects no doubt!
