NEW: Beat Jazz Pack

(9 customer reviews)

$17.00

What is Beat Jazz? Well, you might call it smooth jazz, jazz-funk, or crossover jazz, and there’s no denying that artists such as Steely Dan, Bobby Caldwell, Al Jarreau, Roy Ayers, Groover Washington Jr, George Benson and The Crusaders all have made an everlasting impression on the modern jazz genre.

There’s also sub-genres such as lo-fi Hip Hop and Acid Jazz, but style-wise, the Beat Jazz Drumming Pack is more of a vibey, sun-soaked mix between our Westcoast and Bumpy packs, but also has a lot in common with our Modern Soul pack. It’s funky, but not too syncopated. Not many flashy fills or polyrhythmic heroics, but some very intricate hihat work. The focus is on well-played grooves with natural a flow that supports and enhances the song instead of getting in the way of it.

These grooves are also highly suitable for certain kinds of Yacht Rock. Think Cristopher Cross, Pages, Steely Dan and you’re in the ballpark.

Great jazz grooves that simply work well in any style of music.

  2. joey.coole (verified owner)

One of the best packs yet from Oddgrooves, at least for ‘my kind’ of music! Pure inspiration, and works perfectly in EZD3.

  3. bignovak (verified owner)

The highest quality MIDI drum grooves, expertly played. Are jazzy “musical” just by themselves. A wide range of “feels”, extremely useful for different vibes. Solid but “loose” at the same time, if that makes sense. A pleasure to audition, which is usually a drag with other MIDI’s. Excellent mapping for Addictive Drums 2. My only problem is where to start!

  4. Kinny Landrum

Sounds like Bernard Purdie, and I should know, I’ve worked with him for almost 50 years. Great grooves.

  5. Don Smith (verified owner)

Absolutely lovin this set of grooves, the freebies prior to release already had me excited! Using them primarily with Superior Drummer & they sound so cool with the latest State of the Art SDX. Another OG winner – feel the groove!!

This drumming is *doom*. My background is on the New York jazz scene and the relative dearth of MIDI packs with this level of groove has always been frustrating. But not any more 🙂 Anyone into Steely Dan or other groove-oriented/jazzy/sophisticated/smooth compositions will be delighted with this pack. I’ve had it all of two days and the ideas are flowing…I’m already ready for Beat Jazz Pack Two…how about it, Magnus and Per? 😉
